IRM International CIC – Health and Safety Policy
Policy Statement
IRM International CIC is committed to meeting our duty, as far as is reasonably practicable, towards ensuring the health, safety and welfare needs of our staff, volunteers and members of the public are always being met.
We are committed to ensuring that all activities carried out by the organisation are safe and will do whatever is necessary to ensure that any risks to staff, volunteers and members of the public are always minimised.
The Directors of IRM International CIC will ensure that the organisation observes the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all relevant regulations and codes of practice made under it.
This policy will be reviewed on an annual basis by the Directors.
Responsibilities
The Director who is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of health and safety policies within the organisation as well as recommending any changes that need to be made is Fiaz Khan.
All accidents or unsafe incidents will be investigated by Fiaz Khan on behalf of the Directors by as soon as possible and will subsequently be reported to the Directors at the next available meeting.
Fiaz Khan is responsible for the following: –
- Assessing any potential risk to the health and safety of staff, volunteers and members of the public as well as identifying any measures that need to be put in place in order for IRM International CIC to be able to comply with its health and safety obligations
- Ensuring that any venues used by IRM International CIC are safe and without risk to health. This includes ensuring that there are safe ways of entering and leaving the venue, especially in case of emergency such as a fire, and that this information is communicated effectively.
- Providing information, instruction, training and supervision to staff and volunteers with respect to safe working methods and procedures as and when required. All new staff members will be required to attend Health and Safety training during their induction period.
- Consulting with staff and volunteers on a regular basis to ensure their co-operation towards a safe and healthy workplace
- Establishing emergency procedures as and when required
- Ensuring that any equipment being used by IRM International CIC staff and volunteers is safe and always maintained.
Staff and Volunteer responsibilities
All IRM International CIC staff members and volunteers will ensure that: –
- They familiarise themselves with the contents of this Health and Safety policy
- They always comply with this Health and Safety policy
- They take care of themselves and others who may potentially be affected by their actions or omissions
- They will report all accidents, unsafe situations and any near misses (things which could potentially have led to an accident), to Fiaz Khan or another Director of IRM International CIC immediately.
- They ensure that any accidents or near misses are recorded in an accident book which is kept in the staff room.
- They are aware of all fire procedures for the area in which they are working. This includes any external venues that they may visit.
- If they identify anything which they think could be in any way unsafe, they will report it immediately to the Manager or a trustee.
Risk Assessments
IRM International CIC will ensure that all premises and tasks are assessed in line with the current relevant legislation. Assessments will be repeated when there is: –
- a change in health and safety legislation
- a change of premises
- a significant change in the work that is being carried out by IRM International CIC’s staff and volunteers
- a new technology being brought into the organisation
or any other reason which makes the original assessment not valid.
Training
To comply with Health and Safety legislation and to promote the health, safety and welfare of staff and volunteers at IRM International CIC, health and safety training will be provided to all staff members and volunteers and in the following circumstances:
- When any changes are made to venues being used by IRM International CIC
- On the introduction of any new technology
- When any training needs are identified during risk assessments
Resolving health and safety problems
Any staff member or volunteer with a health and safety concern must, in the first instance, report this to Fiaz Khan (or another Director in their absence).
If, after investigation, the problem is not corrected in a reasonable time, or Fiaz Khan decides that no action is required but the staff member/volunteer remains dissatisfied with this, the staff member/volunteer may then refer the matter to the Directors of IRM International CIC. This must be done in writing.
If the staff member/volunteer is still dissatisfied, the matter will be entered on the agenda for the next meeting of the Directors of IRM International CIC.
